The Ancestors Are Here
THESE DISCLOSURES WILL BE ON THE REGISTRATION FORM FOR ACCEPTANCE:
As an applicant and participant you are acknowledging and agreeing to become a client of The Volunteer Council on Freedmen Affairs and a member of a Freedman Bureau Community. You will receive notices and updates from The Council and Bureau offices. Do you give consent to become a client and community member?
By registering for the My Freedmen Tree service, you are agreeing to be assigned a unique identifier by The Council. This identifier will be used during the process of verifying Freedmen Ancestors without sharing personal information of the descendant(s) to anyone outside The Council. Do you accept the unique identifier to be assigned by The Council for protection of personal information?
To provide a Certificate of Verification, The Council must have evidence of direct lineage to a Freedman Ancestor residing in the United States between 1776 and 1870? The time-frame for issuing a certificate depends on the details provided on lineage and availability of resources to verify the connection to the Freedman Ancestor. To begin the verification process, The Council must have the name and location information of a grand-mother's or grand-father's father. Do you agree with providing the required information and the time-frame?
For assistance in finding Freedmen Ancestor evidence, client provided data/information may be shared with third party applications and/or genealogist. But the data/information will never be linked with the client's name or location. Do you agree to allowing The Council to share data/information for the purpose of third party assistance?
In order to help other Descendants of Freedmen find their ancestors, in the Freedmen Bureaus Spirit, genealogy data and information found for you will be shared, using your encrypted FreedmenID on the website FreedmanBureau.org. For more information on how this data and information is collected and/or shared; please contact freedmentree@volunteercouncil.org. Do you agree to participating in helping other descendants by sharing your ancestors to FreedmanBureau.org?
If you have questions about these disclosures, please contact The Council at your convenience.
